Food = Waste

Food = Waste

Cradle to Cradle "Remaking the way we make things"

"In Cradle to Cradle, McDonough and Braungart argue that the conflict between industry and the environment is not an indictment of commerce but an outgrowth of purely opportunistic design. The design of products and manufacturing systems growing out of the Industrial Revolution reflected the spirit of the day-and yielded a host of unintended yet tragic consequences."

The world is constantly constrained with time demands and deadlines. Every powerful person wants to get more powerful, every wealthy person wants to get more wealthier, we live in a world where changes can be made with just a bit more thought put into our lives.

It's not a new topic when we talk about manufacturing and how bad its effects are on the environment, we all know how bad it is and most of us wither ignore or act transparent to the issues. Take for example the production of shoes, they are a necessity but yet cause so much harm to our environment. Shoes are worn by almost everyone in the world and are designed to be such a unsustainable product, which is mainly derived from costs and lack of thought towards the end product. There must be a solution out there and it needs to be initiated soon, examples like the easily disassembled chair is an example of what we should be aiming for.

The urge to recycle and not down cycle is greatly expressed in the video but i think this problem can never be overturned with just the design of the product. Reasons for this is because, there must be a mutual agreement between share holders and the designers in order for a product to be "sustainable" but to create a sustainable product it might require more costs or labor to conventional techniques.
